Architect & Contractor Corner

Specification,
without friction.

Everything your practice needs to specify our systems with confidence - data sheets, substrate guidance and hands-on support from first sketch to snagging.

01

Technical Data Sheets

Composition, build-up, coverage, cure times and slip/abrasion performance for every system we install.

02

Substrate Prep Guides

Board, screed, existing tile and timber - tolerances, priming and movement detailing before we arrive on site.

03

Maintenance & Care

Simple aftercare schedules that keep mineral surfaces beautiful for decades - issued with every handover.

04

Specification Assistance

Clause-level wording for your specification, whether it is written in NBS or bespoke - from the contractor who will install it - plus samples and mock-ups for design sign-off.

Technical FAQ

The questions every spec meeting asks.

Short answers here; detailed guidance lives in the data sheets and our technical team is a phone call away for anything project-specific.

Which substrates can you apply over?
Cement board, plasterboard, sand-cement screed, anhydrite screed (prepared), existing tile, MDF and blockwork - each with its own priming and reinforcement detail. Timber and anhydrite need particular attention to movement and laitance; our prep guide covers tolerances and we assess every substrate at survey before confirming the build-up.
How long does a typical installation take?
A microcement bathroom typically runs 5-7 working days including waterproofing, coats and curing between them; a seamless floor around 4-6 days before light foot traffic. Venetian plaster rooms depend on coat count and polish level - we sequence with your other trades and confirm a day-by-day programme in the proposal.
Is microcement really waterproof enough for wet rooms?
Yes - as a system. Waterproofing comes from the waterproofing membrane and sealed build-up working together, not the microcement alone, which is why we seal and pressure-test wet areas before a single finish coat goes on. Correctly built, there are no joints or grout lines for water to find.
How do the finishes wear and what maintenance is needed?
Sealed microcement wipes clean with pH-neutral products and shrugs off daily traffic; high-wear commercial floors are re-sealed on a maintenance cycle. Lime plasters mellow beautifully and can be re-waxed to refresh sheen. Every handover includes a written care schedule for your client.
Can you match a colour from another supplier's range?
Almost always. We mix pigment in-studio and match against RAL, NCS or any physical reference - and we confirm the result on a sample panel in your project's light before application, so colour decisions are made on evidence rather than screen renders.
What are the fire and VOC classifications?
The lime range we install - Venetian plaster, Marmorino, Intonachino, Travertino and Tadelakt - is aged slaked lime and marble powder. On the manufacturer's technical data sheets it is Euroclass A1 (non-combustible, no contribution to fire), under 1 g/l of VOC and vapour-open at an Sd of around 0.04 m. Clay plaster is unfired clay, minerals and pigment with no VOC. Microcement is a resin-modified cementitious system with a polyurethane seal: it is not vapour-open and we quote the reaction-to-fire classification from the manufacturer's data sheet for the specified build-up rather than assume one. Data sheets for every system are available on request and on an escape route the class should always be stated in the specification.
Where do you work?
Residential projects across London, Kent and the Home Counties; commercial fit-outs UK-wide and internationally by arrangement. The studio is in Croydon - sample panels can be collected, couriered, or brought to site or practice meetings.
